How Treatment Works
Orthodontic appliances are can be made of different materials including metal, ceramic or plastic. They can either be bonded to your teeth or removable appliances. No matter the type of braces used, the design is the same – to apply gentle and constant pressure on the teeth to move them in a controlled direction that will provide proper alignment.
Today's technology has reduced the size of the brackets making them less noticeable and more efficient. In addition to choosing between metal, ceramic or metallic braces, patients can choose the color ties they want to hold the wire in the brackets.
Treatment Time
Treatment times vary depending on the patient and severity of the case. Interceptive treatment may only take as few as six months. Generally, full orthodontic treatment may take from one to three years. Patient cooperation helps keep treatment on track. Be sure to wear your rubber bands or headgear as instructed by Dr. Goodman.
